Pets for beginners

How pets are collected and leveled, what they add to your stats, the fastest way to Soul Crystals — and how to spend them on the pet board.

A general overview for every class. Pet counts, soul costs, owned stats and item names come from the game data; which board lines to keep is in the Pets section of each class guide. questlog.ggmetabot.ggMein-MMOmetabot.ggSpace4GamesTitanTheF

How pets work

Pets aren't tamed — you collect them. Most monsters have a soul: collect 5 souls of one monster and it joins your collection as a pet. The collection is shared by your characters on the server.

  • Owned effects: every pet you own adds a few stats — permanently, without being equipped or summoned. They add up across pets.
  • Pet board EXP: every new pet and every pet level feeds the wheel of its genus (see the pet board below).
  • Riding and transformation: the equipped pet is your mount, level 2 unlocks gliding, and at level 3 you can turn into it with Empathy Candy. Special pets can't be used for the transformation.
  • Souls drop from the monster itself — the Source tab of a pet in the Pets menu shows where it lives. Chests, merchants, daily rewards and events give some too.

Pet levels and souls

Pets go up to level 3 on the global client (Korea and Taiwan already have level 5). Every pet costs the same souls and gives its wheel the same EXP:

LevelSoulsWheel EXP
1 (unlock)+5+500
2+25+250
3+75+250
Total1051,000

The first 5 souls of a pet are the cheapest EXP in the system: half of the pet's 1,000 wheel EXP comes from just unlocking it. Take every new pet you can on the way.

Owned stats and combat power

Every pet of a genus gives the same owned effect, so what counts is how many pets you have and their level — not which ones.

Combat stats per pet. Fera, Natura and Varian pets also add a riding stat; Special pets add none. The last column is every pet of that genus at level 3.

All pets at level 3 is worth about 55,000 combat power on TitanTheF's sheet — one of the cheapest big gains after level 45. The collection pays out too: 100 Soul Crystal at 5 pets and every 10 after that, plus 10 Empathy Candy every 50 pets — 1,700 crystals and 40 candy for the whole collection. TitanTheF

Soul Crystals: the fastest way

The pet board runs on Soul Crystals. There are six kinds:

  • Cogni Soul Crystal Fera Soul Crystal Natura Soul Crystal Varian Soul Crystal — one per wheel; they drop from monsters whose pet you already have at max level.
  • Special Soul Crystal — only for the Special wheel; from duty quests and hidden cubes.
  • Soul Crystal — the rainbow crystal: works on every wheel, Special included.

Hidden cubes are by far the fastest source. A cube opened with a key gives 1,000 Soul Crystal — enough for 250 analyses, and more than half of what the whole pet collection pays out (1,700). Carry keys and open every cube you find. Space4Games

  • Most cubes can only be opened with a key. The few that open without one give a much smaller crystal roll (100) — a key still upgrades them. metabot.gg
  • Keys come from main and hero quests, an achievement (7 keys over its tiers), the Season Shop (up to 10 per account), duty quests, the battle pass, the Monolith and daily attendance.
  • Cubes make a sound when you're close — turn down music and effects. The questlog.gg map shows the spawn spots.

The pet board (Genus Insight)

Source: metabot.gg

Crystals go into the pet board: five wheels, one per genus. Each analysis costs 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 kina (more with locked lines) and rerolls every unlocked line.

  • Five wheels, one per genus: Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special. Each has nine slots, and slot N opens at Insight level N. Leveling pets of a genus and every Analyze give that wheel Insight EXP.
  • Analyze (Soul Crystals + Kinah) rerolls every unlocked line. Don't lock before the wheel is level 9–10: locked lines give no Insight EXP and each lock raises the cost. After that, lock only lines close to their maximum.
  • Slot 4 matters most — it is the wheel's own damage line, and Double Chance on the Special wheel is the best line of the whole system. Then slot 7.
  • The Special wheel only takes Special Soul Crystals — or the rainbow Soul Crystals that work on every wheel — so it levels the slowest. Save rainbow crystals for it.
  • Korean-server guides number the slots differently — compare them by stat, not by slot number.

Which lines to keep for your class:

A simple plan

  • Collect as you quest. Kill a few extra of each monster on your way until its pet is level 3 — owned stats plus wheel EXP.
  • Open every hidden cube with a key — 1,000 rainbow crystals each. Never walk around without keys.
  • Don't lock before wheel level 9–10. Until then, analyze freely — every analysis levels the wheel.
  • Spend rainbow crystals on the Special wheel — the other four have crystals you can farm.
  • Then lock the lines your class wants once they're close to their max.
