Choosing your gear

Dungeon gear, crafted gear or an extendable weapon — what each one gives, what enhancing it really costs, and what to do slot by slot.

A general guide for every class. Item names, sources, stat lines, enhancement caps, reach and costs come from the game data; which stats to roll on each slot is in the Gear section of your class guide. questlog.gg

Three kinds of gold gear

Gold gear comes from dungeons, from crafting, or as an extendable weapon. The source decides how many stat lines an item rolls and how far it can be enhanced — two items of the same item level have the same base stats.

Pros and cons

Dungeon gear

+ Costs only Odyle energy and drops fast; a high enhancement cap (+18 at item level 70, +20 at 86).
− 4 stat lines, and you replace it every tier — move the enhancement with Transfer Stone: Weapon (Unique).

Crafted gear

+ 5 stat lines, and each tier is crafted from your own item — enhancement and stats carry over all the way to item level 102.
− Expensive: leveling the profession (about 2M kina) plus gold materials, and crafts can fail. The middle tiers stop at +16 / +18 until you upgrade them.

Extendable weapons

+ 2 m more reach — huge for melee classes.
− Only 3 stat lines. The best one (item level 102) is a rare drop in Abyssal Forge: Ludra (about 0.6% per weapon) or a pick from its weapon selection chest.

Extendable weapons by class

An extendable weapon adds a flat 2 m to your reach. For melee classes that more than doubles it; for ranged classes it hardly matters.

AssassinDaggers1 m3 m ×3.0

ChanterStaff1.3 m3.3 m ×2.5
  • Melee: you hit targets that try to run and land control from further away — strong in PvP and open-world fights. In PvE you give up 2 stat lines against a crafted weapon of the same level.
  • Ranged: 20 m → 22 m changes almost nothing. Take the crafted weapon.
  • Only the three extendable weapon lines in the first table have the extra reach — it isn't shown in every client's tooltip, so check the name.

What enhancement costs

Up to +10 every try succeeds. After that a try can fail — nothing breaks, you only lose the materials and kina, and every fail raises the next chance. From +15 on you also need Amplify Stone (Unique). The cost depends only on item level.

Average cost with normal luck, worked out from the game's success chances and fail bonus — your own results will vary.

Rule of thumb: +10 is cheap — do it on everything you wear. +15 costs about 15 times as much as +10, so only for items you'll keep a long time. Go past +15 only on your final weapon and gear.

What to do, slot by slot

  • Weapon: your biggest investment. Craft it and keep upgrading the same weapon — enhancement and stats carry over. Melee players who mostly PvP can run an extendable weapon instead.
  • Armor: farm dungeon sets — Vakron Sky Island, then Ferocious Horn Den — and take them to +10. When a better piece drops, move the enhancement over with a transfer stone.
  • Accessories: from Urugugu Canyon and Fire Temple until you can craft your own — they cost the same to enhance as armor of the same level.
  • Don't overspend on gear you'll replace. Past +10, enhance a cheap item and transfer the result — see the hardcore route in After 45.
  • Unbound kina is for buying materials, not for enhancement.
